Equal Marriage NI’s mission statement is as follows:
We intend to campaign for the introduction of full marriage equality for all in Northern Ireland, regardless of gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
The aims of Equal Marriage NI are:
- To end marriage discrimination in Northern Ireland;
- To end the current discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation as regards access to civil marriage;
- To introduce a change in the law in Northern Ireland so as to allow a same-sex couple to enter into a civil marriage under the law;
- To ensure that the rights of religious institutions and celebrants are recognised, respected and protected. To that end, Equal Marriage NI confirms its stance that it will not campaign to coerce or enforce upon any religious institution the requirement to perform same-sex marriages, but that those religious celebrants who do wish to perform same-sex marriages should be permitted to do so.
